1.1 This standard specifies the requirements of design (including rule-based and analysis-based, similarly hereinafter), manufacture, assembly welding, inspection and acceptance for steel spherical tanks (hereinafter referred to as "spherical tanks").
1.2 This standard is applicable to orange-type or hybrid-type column supported spherical tanks with design pressure not greater than 6.4 MPa and design temperature range as per the steel allowable service temperature.
1.3 This standard is not applicable to:
a) spherical tanks in nuclear-energy plant;
b) spherical tanks subjected to relative movement (e.g. on-board);
c) spherical tanks less than 50 m3 in nominal capacity;
d) double-decked spherical tanks.

3 General Provisions
3.1 General Requirements
The design, manufacture, assembly welding, inspection and acceptance of spherical tank shall comply with not only this standard but also GB 150.1~150.4 and JB 4732.
3.2 Management System
The units for the design, manufacture, and assembly welding of spherical tank shall develop and effectively implement a sound quality management system.
3.3 Statement of Conformity
The design, manufacture, assembly welding of spherical tank within the jurisdiction of TSG R0004 shall undergo the supervision of safety supervision unit for special equipment. This standard conforms to the basic safety requirements specified in the nationally-issued pressure vessel safety codes and the statement of conformity of the standard is as specified in Appendix A.
3.4 Delimitation of Spherical Tank
3.4.1 Connection between spherical tank and external pipe:
a) Beveled end of the first girth joint of welded connection;
b) The first flange sealing surface of flange connection.
3.4.2 Pressure head, flat cover and fasteners of spherical tank nozzles and manholes
3.4.3 Connection weld joint between non-pressure parts and spherical shell
3.4.4 Non-pressure parts, e.g. column, strut and base plate, directly connected to spherical tank.
3.4.5 Safety attachments:
a) The overpressure relief devices of spherical tank shall comply with Appendix B in GB 150.1-2011 or Appendix E in JB 4732-1995.
b) Valves and instrumentation of spherical tank shall comply with Appendix B.
3.5 Qualifications and Responsibilities
3.5.1 Qualifications
Include:
a) Design units of the spherical tank within the jurisdiction of TSG R0004 shall hold a license for design of special equipment (pressure vessel - spherical tank). If analysis-based design is to be performed, they shall hold a license for design of special equipment (pressure vessel - analysis-based design) additionally.
b) Manufacturer of the spherical tank within the jurisdiction of TSG R0004 shall hold a license for manufacture of special equipment (pressure vessel - manufacture of spherical shell plate);
c) Assembly welding units of the spherical tank within the jurisdiction of TSG R0004 shall hold a license for manufacture of special equipment (pressure vessel - on-site assembly welding of spherical tank).
3.5.2 Responsibilities
