This standard specifies the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, identification, marking, labeling, packaging, accompanied technical documents, etc. of hand-held metal detectors.
It is applicable to hand-held metal detectors for checking metal weapons and metal contraband articles, and is the basic basis for designing, manufacturing, inspecting and using such equipment. It may apply by reference for hand-held metal detectors for other purposes.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
hand-held metal detector
a kind of hand-held metal detecting device, which can detect hidden metal objects exceeding a limited amount
3.2
positive alarm
in case of metal objects reaching or exceeding the limited amount are detected, the hand-held metal detector sending out alarm signals with specified display and sound
3.3
alarm failure
situation of hand-held metal detectors failing to giving positive alarm for metal objects that reach or exceed the limited amount
3.4
false alarm
situation of hand-held metal detector giving false alarm in case of no detection conducted or no article that shall be alarmed
3.5
detector sensor
sensor of hand-held metal detector to detect metal
3.6
detector axis
imaginary axis that passes through and is perpendicular to the center of the detection area of detector sensor (generally referring to the center of the overall dimension of the detector sensor when there is no specification by the product), such as Z-axis in Figure 1
