This standard specifies the terms and definitions, technical requirements and test methods for automobile seats, their anchorages and any head restraints.
It is applicable to:
a) seats, their anchorages and any head restraints of automobiles of Categories M1 and N;
b) seats, their anchorages and any head restraints of automobiles of Categories M2 and M3 not involved in GB 13057;
c) the design of the rear parts of seat-backs and design of devices intended to protect the occupants from the danger resulting from the displacement of luggage in a frontal collision, of vehicle of Category M1.
It does not apply to rearward-facing seats or to any head restraint fitted to these seats.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 3730.1 and GB/T 15089 and the following apply.
3.1
vehicle type
a category of motor vehicles which do not differ in the following essential respects:
a) the structure, shape, dimension, material and mass of the seats, although the seats may differ in covering material and color; differences not exceeding 5% in the mass of the approved type of seat shall be allowed;
b) the type and dimension of the adjustment, displacement and locking systems of seats and their seat-backs and parts;
