This standard specifies the limits and measurement methods for exhaust emission pollutants from gasoline vehicles under two-speed idle conditions, steady-state loaded mode conditions, transient loaded mode conditions, and short transient loaded mode conditions. Moreover, this standard also specifies the methods and judgment bases for appearance inspection, OBD inspection, and fuel evaporative emission control system inspection of gasoline vehicles.
This standard is applicable to the inspection for new produced vehicle at end of production line, inspection for register vehicle, and inspection for in-use vehicle, and it is also applicable to other vehicles equipped with ignition engine.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purpose of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply.

light-duty vehicle
vehicle of category M1, M2 and N1 having a maximum mass not exceeding 3,500kg

in accordance with GB/T 15089:
vehicle of category M1 refers to the passenger vehicle accommodating a maximum of 9 seats including the driver's seat;
vehicle of category M2 refers to the passenger vehicle accommodating more than 9 seats including the driver's seat and having a maximum mass not exceeding 5,000kg;
vehicle of category N1 having a maximum mass not exceeding 3,500kg
