This Standard specifies requirements of safety concerning the design, construction, operation and maintenance. This Standard mainly involves the questions of safety and ergonomic criteria of drill rigs.
This Standard is applicable to the drill rigs for surface and underground drilling in the construction, tunnelling, railway, road, hydropower station and water conservancy industries. Casing units are also covered by this Standard.
Note: This Standard deals with the significant hazards pertinent to mechanized drill rigs, when used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer. However, this Standard do not deals with all the hazards pertinent to mechanical, electric, hydraulic, pneumatic and other equipments, as well as and that are dealt with in standards for common use. For the hazards uncovered in this Standard, the relevant requirements of GB/T 15706.1 and GB/T 15706.2 shall be complied with.
This Standard is applicable to the drill rigs with the following characteristics:
a) The methods used for drilling can be divided into three types: percussive drilling, rotary drilling and rotary percussive drilling;
b) Chassis type is divided into fixed type, hauling type and self-propelled type, etc.;
c) Mainly used in forming of pile holes, anchorage holes, blast holes and drainage holes. Typical examples of drill rigs covered by this standard as follows:
● Drill rigs for piling mainly divided into the following type: percussive drilling type drill rigs, rotary drilling drill rigs, long auger drilling drill rigs, obverse/reverse circulation drill rigs, swing/rotary type casing drill rigs, pile top drill rigs, down hole hammer drill rigs, etc.;
● Drill rigs for anchorage holes mainly divided into rotary and rotary percussive drilling type drill rigs;
● Drill rigs for blast holes mainly divided into rock drill rigs, down the hole rock drill rigs, and rotary drilling rigs;
● Drill rigs for other purposes including live spindle type drill rigs, rotary and rotary percussive drilling type drill rigs for ground surface and underground drilling holes, obverse/reverse circulation type drill rigs and horizontal directional drill rigs, etc.;
d) A casing or a drilling fluid may be used to stabilize the bore hole.
Drill rigs are stationary during drilling. They may move from one place of work to another, under their own power. Self propelled drill rigs may include those mounted on lorries, wheeled chassis, tractors, crawlers, skid bases (pulled by winch). When drill rigs are mounted on lorries, tractors and trailers, or are wheeled based, transportation may be carried out at higher speeds and on public roads. When designing and constructing these units attention is drawn to regulations covering both the drill rig and traffic regulations.
If the base of a drill rig consists of an excavator, crane, etc. it shall be covered by its own standards to the extent the requirements of this standard are not applicable.
If a drill rig operates with attachments other than those for drilling according to this standard, e.g. pile driving, the safety standards applying to such machines shall also be complied with.
Drill rigs for explosive gas atmosphere shall meet the relevant requirements of equipment standards for explosive gas atmosphere.
This Standard is not applicable to the drill rigs for surface and underground drilling in oil and gas industry.
