1 Subject Content and Application Scope
This standard specifies the determination method for jet fuels and water separation characteristics.
This standard is applicable to evaluate the cleanliness of jet fuels, which may reflect if the fuels contain surface active substances such as sulfonate and naphthenate as well as evaluate the separating power of fuels to the water when passing the filter coalescer.
2 Definition
Water separation characteristics: it is the value used to evaluate the water separating power of jet fuels when passing the condensed medium, in unit: 0~100; clean and transparent jet fuel is 100.
3 Method Summary
In the water separation characteristics determinator, water and fuel, after forming emulsion, quantitatively pass through a coagulator pool with standard filter gasket, and then the turbidity of fuel through the coagulator is measured by photocell.
4 Instruments and Materials
4.1 Instruments
4.1.1 Water separation characteristics determinator: Type 1104 CRC determinator; Figure 1 is its front view; Figure 2 is its flow chart; see Appendix A for the detailed description of the instrument; see Appendix B for the maintenance and troubleshooting.
