This standard specifies the design requirements and performance characteristic of active direct reading personnel dose equivalent (rate) monitors for X and gamma radiation.
This standard is applicable to the monitor (monitor for short) that is worn on the torso for determining the personal dose equivalent and personal dose equivalent rate of external X and γ radiation suffered by the wearer.
This standard is applicable to measuring the personal dose equivalent and dose equivalent rate generated by X and gamma radiation with 50keV~1.5MeV energy range. If the upper limit of energy measurement of this monitor is the personal dose equivalent generated by 10MeV photons, for example, 6MeV gamma photon existing around reactor nuclear facilities, the response shall be measured under corresponding energy.
The design requirements specified in this standard may not applicable to the pulse radiation field.
This standard shall not be applicable to measuring the personal dose equivalent for neutron and the personal dose equivalent of weak penetrating radiation, such as low-energy solar radiation, and shall not be applicable to the passive dosimeter, such as dosifilm, thermoluminescence dosimeter and quartz fiber electrometer dosimeter.
This standard specifies that the calibration of this monitor shall be carried out on the phantoms, so it should not be taken as portable measuring device.
This standard specifies the general characteristic, inspection procedure, radiation characteristic, electrical characteristic, mechanical characteristic, safety characteristic and environmental characteristic of above monitors.
