This standard specifies two testing methods for linear density of man-made fibres: bundle fibre midsection weighing method (Method A) and single fibre vibrating meter method (Method B).
This standard is applicable to the determination of linear density of man-made staple fibres made of polyester (dacron), polyamide (Nylon), polyacrylonitrile (acrylon), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl formal (nylon) and regenerated cellulose. During the test for the aforesaid methods, a certain tension shall be applied to the fibres to straighten it and clear away the crimp, so as to guarantee the effectiveness of test results. Whether to adopt Method A or Method B shall be determined through negotiation by both parties concerned according to actual conditions.
