This standard specifies the basic heat pipe terminology.
This standard is applicable to the sectors of science, technology and product of heat pipe.
2 Terms and Definitions
2.1 Heat Pipe Composition
2.1.1
Heat pipe
The evaporation and condensation heat transfer unit driving working fluid to flow in cycle under the pumping action of capillary structure.
2.1.2
Wick
Capillary wick
The structure in the heat pipe to provide capillary pumping force and flow channel for the backflow of liquid.
2.1.3
Working fluid
The working medium in heat pipe to transfer heat.
2.1.4
Container (shell)
The shell that contains the wick and working fluid.
2.1.5
Evaporator (evaporating section)
The device (section) through which the liquid in heat pipe absorbs heat and is vaporized into gas.
2.1.6
Condenser (section)
Condenser
The device (section) through which the gas in heat pipe releases heat and turns into liquid.
2.1.7
Adiabatic section
The section between the evaporator and condenser of heat pipe, having no heat exchange with the outside.
2.1.8
Artery
The structural channel in the heat pipe to convey liquid working fluid.
2.1.9
Screen wick
The wick composed of wire mesh.
2.1.10
Axial grooved wick
The wick composed of axial groove on the inner wall of container (shell).
2.1.11
Circumferential grooved wick
The wick composed of the circumferential groove on the inner wall of container (shell).
2.1.12
Sintered wick
The wick of porous structure, made with sintering process.
2.1.13
Composite wick
Complex wick
The wick composed of two or more types of capillary structures.
2.1.14
Flat plate artery wick
The wick composed of multi-layer wire mesh overlapped plane artery and circumferential groove on the inner wall of pipe.
2.1.15
Pedestal artery wick
The wick composed of circumferential groove, small cylindrical liquid channel with wire mesh and connection spoke on the inner wall of pipe.
2.1.16
Spiral artery wick
The wick composed of circumferential groove, liquid channel whose pipe center is enclosed by spiral mesh interlayer as well as connection spoke on the inner wall of pipe.
2.1.17
Tunnel artery wick
The wick composed of circumferential groove, liquid passage whose pipe center is enclosed by concentric mesh pipes as well as connection spoke on the inner wall of pipe.
