This standard specifies the technical requirements and corresponding test methods of red lead. Red lead is a kind of pigment that is orange red to red in color and composed of plumbous orthoplumbate (Pb3O4) and lead monoxide (PbO).
This standard was formulated by making reference to the International Standard ISO 510-1977 "Red Lead for Paints".
In this standard, red lead is divided into two main classes, one is suitable for use in paint industry and one is suitable for use in other industries. The red lead for paint industry use is divided into nonsetting red lead (high-percentage content red lead) and high-dispersibility red lead. The nonsetting red lead will not cause excessive thickening when mixing with linseed oil. The other industries mainly refer to glass industry and ceramic industry.
1 Technical Requirements
Red lead shall have the characteristics listed in the bellow table:
