3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply. See definitions in GB 50057, GB / T 17949.1, GB 18802.1 and relevant standards for universal terms and definitions which are not provided in this standard.
3.1
Lightning protection system, LPS
The complete system used to reduce physical damage to a structure due to lightning flashes, which consists of both external and internal lightning protection systems. Under specific circumstances, it may only consist of external or internal lightning protection system. Also known as the lightning protection device.
Note: this definition is changed from Definition 7.32 of GB/T 19663-2005.
3.2
External lightning protection system
LPS for direct lightning flash consisting of the air-termination system, down conductor and earthing device.
[Definition 7.41 of GB/T 19663-2005]
3.3
Internal lightning protection system
Internal lightning protection system consists of all other additional facilities except for external LPS and is used to reduce and protect electromagnetic effect generated by lightning current in a protection required space.
[Definition 7.36 of GB/T 19663-2002]
