This standard specifies the classification and designation, labeling, requirements, test methods, inspection rules as well as marking, packaging, transportation and storage of separators for lead-acid batteries (hereinafter referred to as "separators").
This standard is applicable to ultra-fine glass fiber separators, microporous polyethylene separators and sintered polyvinyl chloride separators for lead-acid batteries.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purpose of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
maximum pore size
diameter of the largest pore of a separator
3.2
porosity
percentage of volume of separator pores to the total volume of separator
3.3
electrical resistance
ability of a separator to block ion migration in sulfuric acid solution
Note: it is expressed by the ohm value per square decimeter separator.
3.4
wet ability
ability of the separator to be wetted by sulfuric acid solution
Note: it is expressed by time, in s.
3.5
basis weight
mass of separator per unit area and thickness
3.6
weight loss in acid-soaking
mass change rate of separator after being soaked in sulfuric acid solution with a certain density at a certain temperature for a certain time
3.7
acid-wicking height
free climbing height of the acid solution when the separator absorbs acid
3.8
foamability
degree to which bubbles (foam) are generated on the liquid level of sulfuric acid solution when the unit consisting of pure lead electrode and separator is charged at constant current
3.9
separator height
length along the separator forming direction (i.e. along the electrode plate height direction)
3.10
dimensional stability
dimensional change of the separator after being soaked in sulfuric acid solution at a certain temperature for a certain time
3.11
CMD elongation
length change rate of separator before and after horizontal tensile
3.12
oil content
percentage of the mass of oil in separator to the total mass of separator
3.13
defect
bright spots on the separator
3.14
elongation at break
percentage of increase in length of the sample at complete break during tensile test
3.15
wet pressure retention
ability of the saturated separator to maintain pressure on the electrode plate
3.16
ignition loss
reduction of separator before and after ignition
3.17
puncture strength
force required for a shaped needle to puncture the separator
3.18
