This standard specifies the method summary, reagents and materials, instruments and apparatus, determination, calibration, expression of results, precision etc. for determination of total carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen content in coal with instrumental method.
This standard is applicable to the rapid determination of total carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen content in lignite, bituminite and anthracite.

3 Method Summary
The coal sample with known mass sufficiently combusts in oxygen stream at high temperature, and the mixture of carbon dioxide, water and nitrogen/nitrogen oxide is generated through complete combustion of carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen in coal. The influence factors (e.g. the combustion product of sulfur, chlorine etc.) disturbing the determination are filtered through specific handling system and all nitrogen oxide are reduced to nitrogen. The carbon, hydrogen or nitrogen content in coal is quantitatively determined according to carbon dioxide, vapor and nitrogen respectively with specific detection system.
