1.1 Overview
This part of GB/T 31037 specifies safety requirements and safety protective measures involved in structure, identification and performance test of fuel cell power system used for industrial lift truck application.
Fuel cell power system providing power for electric industrial lift trucks for indoor or outdoor use covers fuel cell power system (hereinafter referred to as power system) and energy storage module. Energy storage module refers to the power storage device used for starting power system, assisting fuel battery power system in power supply to internal or external load. And it is composed of lead acid battery, nickel-metal hydride battery, lithium ion battery, ultra-capacitors or other energy storage modules with corresponding functions. This part is only involved with safety requirements of fuel cell power system, excluding energy storage modules.
Industrial lift trucks in this standard covers: counterbalanced fork-lift truck, reach trucks, straddle trucks, pallet-stacking trucks, platform trucks, trucks with liftable operating floor, side-loading truck, rough-terrain forklift, lateral-stacking trucks (both sides), three-direction stacking trucks, high-lifting straddlers for stacking, pallet trucks, platform carriers, non-stacking low-lifting straddlers and order pickers.
This part is applicable to proton exchange membrane fuel cell power system with gaseous hydrogen as fuel and air as oxidizing agent.
The used storage hydrogen devices applicable to this part cover:
- The fixed or replaceable;
- The refillable or disposable;
- The integrated device or those installed on power system or industrial lift trucks.
This part only considers hazardous conditions harmful to people, objects or environment besides fuel cell power system, and proposes safety requirements for such conditions, excluding safety measures taken for the damages to fuel cell power system.
1.2 System boundary
The schematic diagram of power system boundary is as shown in Figure 1. Therein, fuel cell power system components are in heavy line frame and the incoming/outgoing arrows in the boundary of frame are the input and output of fuel cell power system.

Figure 1 Boundary for Power System
The power system applicable to this part consists of whole or part of components in power system boundary of Figure 1, but its overall design shall meet the realization of set functions. The components and functions in power system boundary include:
Fuel cell modules: consist of the following parts: one or more fuel cell stacks, pipeline system for fuel, oxidizing agent and waste gas transfer, circuit connection, monitor and/or control measures for fuel cell stacks transmission;
- Fuel (hydrogen) storage system: parts and its relevant accessories that are installed at the inside of power system or industrial lift trucks (fixed or replaceable) and used for the fuel (hydrogen) storage;
- Fuel (hydrogen) supply system: includes but not limited to such devices and components as pipelines, valves, sensors, fuel pressurization/decompression/pressurizer which perform such process as pressurization, decompression or stabilization of fuels input to power system and convey the fuel from fuel storage systems to fuel cell modules;
