This standard specifies expression methods of designation, order contents, dimension, shape, weight and permissible deviation, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules as well as packaging, marking and certification of steel plates for steel penstock in hydropower station.
This standard is applicable to steel plates (with thickness of 12 mm~150 mm) for steel penstock, volute and branch pipe in hydropower station (hereafter referred to as "steel plates").

3 Expression Methods of Designation
Steel designation is composed of 4 parts, i.e., the initial of the Chinese phonetic alphabet "Qu" which represents yield strength, the lower limit of the yield strength, initial of the Chinese phonetic alphabet "Shui" which represents hydropower and steel quality grade symbol. For example, Q490SD, where:
Q——the initial of the Chinese phonetic alphabet "Qu" (yield in meaning) in yield strength;
490——the specified minimum yield strength, MPa;
S——initial of the Chinese syllable of "Shui", which represents hydropower;
D——the quality grade is Grade D.
Where the demander requires the steel plate to have through-thickness characteristic, the symbol representing the through-thickness (Z-direction) characteristic grade shall be added in the above-mentioned designation, for example: Q490SDZ35.
