This standard specifies the specimen preparation, specimen etching, structure inspection and grain size examination in the microstructural examination on wrought aluminium and aluminium alloy materials and product.
This standard is applicable to the microstructural examination on wrought aluminium and aluminium alloy materials and products.
2 Specimen Preparation
2.1 Specimen cutting
2.1.1 The ingot specimen shall be cut from the cross section of representative positions according to the requirements of category, specification and test objective.
2.1.2 The specimens of fabricated products shall be collected from such representative positions according to those specified in the related standards or technical agreements as well as the variety, heat treating methods and operating requirements of products. For example, the specimens for over-burning inspection shall be cut from the positions of products where have small deformation when the products of put at the high-temperature zone of reheating furnace; the specimens for inspecting the thickness of coating layer shall be cut off transversely from the head and tail ends of strip coil.
2.2 Quantity and dimensions of specimens
The sampling quantity shall be determined according to those specified in standards or technical agreements as well as the testing requirements. The specimen dimensions may be referred to Table 1.
