This test method covers the atmospheric distillation of petroleum products using a laboratory batch distillation unit to determine quantitatively the boiling range characteristics. This test method covers both manual and automated instruments.
This standard is applicable to such distillate fuels as natural gasolines (stable light hydrocarbons), light and middle distillates, automotive spark-ignition engine fuels, aviation gasolines, jet fuels, diesels and kerosines, petroleum spirits and naphthas; it is not applicable to products containing appreciable quantities of residual material.
Note: for samples for the precision of this method, their volume fractions of the residual materials shall not be larger than 2%.
