This standard specifies atomic fluorescence spectrometry for determining mercury, arsenic, selenium, bismuth and antimony in water.
It is applicable to the determination of total quantity of soluble mercury, arsenic, selenium, bismuth and antimony in surface water, groundwater, domestic sewage and industrial wastewater.
For mercury, the detection limit by the method in this standard is 0.04μg/L, and the lower limit of determination is 0.16μg/L; for arsenic: 0.3μg/L and 1.2μg/L; for selenium: 0.4μg/L and 1.6μg/L; for bismuth and antimony, 0.2μg/L and 0.8μg/L.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purpose of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1 soluble mercury, arsenic, selenium, bismuth and antimony
the contents of mercury, arsenic, selenium, bismuth and antimony determined after the non-acidified sample is filtered through a 0.45μm-pore size filter membrane
3.2 total quantity of mercury, arsenic, selenium, bismuth and antimony
the contents of mercury, arsenic, selenium, bismuth and antimony measured after degradation of unfiltered samples
3.3 determined elements
elements of mercury, arsenic, selenium, bismuth and antimony
