1 Scope
This standard specifies the basic principles for hydraulic system fluids selection, use, storage and discard treatment as well as relevant technical guidance.
This standard is applicable to the hydraulic system for the general industry equipment and mobile machinery hydraulic system.
Fluids in this standard refer to the hydraulic fluids, including hydraulic fluids of mineral oil type and hydraulic fluids of synthetic hydrocarbon type as well as hydraulic fluids of synthetic type and environmentally acceptable hydraulic fluids.
As for the uninflammable hydraulic fluids as the operation specification of fluids, the operation shall be in accordance with the requirements of GB/T 16898.

3 Terms and Definitions
Those established in GB/T 17446 and the following terms and definitions are applicable to this standard.
3.1
Hydraulic fluids of mineral oil type
The base oil refined from the petroleum through physical distillation method is referred to as mineral oil (including some non-deep hydrogenated base oil).
3.2
Hydraulic fluids of synthetic hydrocarbon type
They refer to the hydraulic oil prepared by the base oil (majority of the constituents not directly existing in the petroleum) obtained through chemical synthesis.
3.3
Hydraulic fluids of synthetic type
They refer to the hydraulic fluids prepared by the base fluid (major of the constituents not directly existing in the petroleum) obtained through chemical synthesis or those directly synthetized through chemical method.
3.4
Environmentally acceptable hydraulic fluids
They refer to the hydraulic fluids that may be decomposed by the environmental microorganisms after discarded, finally mineralized, and become one component of carbon element cycling in the nature.
