This standard specifies the terms and definitions, symbols and meanings, requirements, inspection methods, inspection rules, and marking, packaging, transportation and storage of phased array ultrasonic testing instruments (hereinafter referred to as “phased array testing instruments”).
This standard is applicable to the phased array testing instruments with a testing frequency in the range of 0.2MHz to 25MHz.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 12604.1 and the following apply.
3.1
phased array
array elements in the array controlled via electronic system, transmitting and receiving ultrasonic waves according to a certain delay time rule so as to dynamically control the deflection and focusing of the ultrasonic beams in the workpiece
3.2
crosstalk damping during channel
amount of energy transfer from the output end of pulses in the phased-array instrument to the input end of neighbouring channels
3.3
calibrated dB-switch
device controlling the gain of the phased array testing instrument calibrated in decibels
3.4
linearity of time base
measure of how close the horizontal graticule reading of a signal on the screen of phased array testing instrument is to being directly proportional to the time-of-flight of an echo
3.5
digitization sampling error
error introduced into the displayed amplitude of an input signal by the periodic nature of measurements taken by an analogue-to-digital converter
3.6
dynamic range
ratio of the amplitude of the largest signal to the smallest signal which a phased array testing instrument can display, wherein the smallest signal can be limited by system noise, the largest signal can be limited by the saturation of the amplifier, and the largest signal that can be displayed on the display is also limited by the maximum attenuation
3.7
display height linearity
measure of how close the vertical graticule reading of a signal on the screen of phased array testing instrument is to being directly proportional to the input signal amplitude
