1.1 This standard applies when evaluating performance characteristics of ultrasonic testing systems at test field. The ultrasonic testing systems refer to equipment used in the test, including A-scan pulse-echo ultrasonic tester, ultrasonic probe and high frequency cable connected therewith. In the test, only standard block specified in this standard is used instead of any electronic instruments.
1.2 This standard only specifies test method for evaluating performance characteristics of ultrasonic testing systems, but does not propose performance index or acceptance condition. Where necessary, the supplier and the purchaser may make an antecedent negotiation and specify the minimum performance index which the ultrasonic testing systems shall reach when the product is accepted.
1.3 This standard is only applicable to manual testing but not to automatic ultrasonic testing.
1.4 This standard is only applicable to the system including ordinary contact ultrasonic normal probe or angled probe but not to the systems including ultrasonic probes of other types (such as bicrystal type and water immersion type).
