1.1.1 This chapter is applicable to the steel structure design in general highway engineering. The steel structure not referred to in this code can be designed according to the special codes approved by the State or relevant advanced technical data.
1.1.2 When this code is adopted, the loads shall be in accordance with the requirements of "General code for design of highway bridges and culverts".
Earthquake-resistant calculation and requirements shall be in accordance with the requirements of "Specifications of earthquake resistant design for highway engineering".
1.1.3 The steel structure shall be designed with regard to erection scheme. The design shall be economic rationality, as well as convenient for machining, transportation, installation, inspection and maintenance.
The structural members shall try to be standardized, and members of the same type shall be able to change with each other.
1.1.4 Steel structure generally adopts shop welding (or riveting) members which will be spliced (high strength bolt connection) on site.
1.1.5 Vertical deflection caused by vehicle loads (excluding impact force) shall not exceed the allowable values listed in Table 1.1.4. When checking calculation is carried out with platform trailer or tracked vehicle, allowable vertical deflection can be increased by 20%.
When vehicle loads move at the range of one bridge span, and generate positive and negative deflection, the deflection shall be the sum of the maximum absolute value of positive and negative deflection.
As for temporary or special structure, its allowable value of vertical deflection can be determined through negotiation with relevant organizations.
1.1.6 The bridge span structure shall be equipped with camber whose value is equal to the sum of vertical deflection caused by structural weight and 1/2 static live load. The arch camber shall be made into flat curve. If bridge surface is on the vertical curve, the camber shall be consistent with the longitudinal gradient of the vertical curve.
