1.0.1 This code was formulated in order to unify the standards for the design of steel structure of railway bridge, implement the relevant regulations and railway technical policy of the state and make the design of steel structure meet the requirements of safety and usability, advanced technology and economic feasibility.
1.0.2 This code applies to the design of the simply-supported or continuous riveted, bolted and welded steel trussed beam, plate beam and all-welded steel beam for the standard gauge railways of Class I and II, in the railway network, the trains for passengers and goods run by sharing one line, the design running speed of passenger train is equal or less than 160km/h, the design running speed of goods train is equal to or less than 120km/h (80km/h for Zhuan 8A type freight car).
This code applies to the single and double-track trussed beam with span bellow 168m and the plate beams with span bellow 40m as well as other forms of steel bridges, their design shall not only be made reference to this code, but also shall be in accordance with relevant additional regulations.
Among the bridges both for highway and railway, the steel structures bearing the highway loads separately shall be designed according to the current "Code for Design of Highway Bridge and Culvert". The steel tower also may be designed by making reference to this code.
1.0.3 The steel structure of railway bridge shall be with the specified strength, stiffness, stability and perdurability and shall be designed according the design life of 100 years. When designing the steel structure of bridge, the computational check shall be conducted on the passing of long and huge goods trains in limited speed.
1.0.4 When designing by adopting with this code, the design still shall be in accordance with those specified in the current "Fundamental Code for Design on Railway Bridge and Culvert" (TB 10002.1). When the speed of goods train is 120km.h, the double-layer container truck is driven and the ballastless track is laid, the design also shall meet the requirements of the relevant additional regulations.
1.0.5 The stiffness of the railway steel bridge shall meet the relevant regulations specified in the current "Fundamental Code for Design on Railway Bridge and Culvert" (TB 10002.1). The special structures and representative bridges shall be done with the dynamic analysis of coupled vehicle and bridge, and their comfortable level, derailment coefficient, stationarity and other indexes shall meet the relevant regulations specified in the current "Fundamental Code for Design on Railway Bridge and Culvert" (TB 10002.1).
1.0.6 The member design of steel structure should be standardized so as to enable the members of the same type can be interchanged.
The structure shall be economic and feasible, be convenient for processing, transportation and installation; and the detailed parts shall be easy to inspect and maintain.
The construction details shall be designed with a consideration of reducing the subsidiary stress.
1.0.7 The structure of bridge span shall be preinstalled with camber, the curve of the camber shall have basically same shape with but be opposite in direction to the deflection curve produced by the dead load and half a static live load.
1.0.8 Under the possible worst composite action of the calculated loads, the stability coefficient against lateral overturning of the structure of bridge span shall not be less than 1.3.
1.0.9 The steel beam shall be adaptable to being jacked up with lifting jack. The jacking facility and structure themselves shall be checked by calculation according to 130% of the to-be-jacked loads.
1.0.10 For the bridges with the line center at the curve is with offset as well as other bridges with eccentric loads, the influence of the eccentric loads on the bridge span structure shall be calculated.
1.0.11 The design of the steel structure of railway bridge shall not only comply with this code, but also shall comply with those specified in the relevant current national mandatory standards.
