1.0.1 This code is formulated with view to unifying the design standards for concrete and block masonry structure of railway bridge and culvert, implementing the relevant laws, regulations and railway technical policies of the nation, and making the design of concrete and block masonry structure for railway bridge and culvert meet the requirements of safety, serviceability, technical advancement and economic feasibility.
1.0.2 This code is applicable to the design of concrete and block masonry structure for Grades I and II standard gauge railway bridges and culverts with the passenger and freight trains sharing the same railway, the design travelling speed of passenger train equal to or less than 160km/h and the design travelling speed of freight train equal to or less than 120km/h (or 80km/h for Transfer 8A-type freight train) in railway network.
1.0.3 When designing by adopting this code, the loads shall be adopted according to the requirements of "Fundamental Code for Design on Railway Bridge and Culvert" (TB 10002.1-2005).
1.0.4 Concrete and block masonry structure for bridges and culverts shall be so designed to guarantee adequate strength, stability and durability according to the 100-year lifetime.
1.0.5 Concretes and block masonry structures for bridges and culverts shall be adopted reasonably according to factors such as hydrology, geology, landform, superstructure, load, material supply and conditions for construction work.
1.0.6 Lowest strength grades and application scopes of materials for concrete and block masonry, shall be in accordance with those specified in Table 1.0.6.

Note: except arch ring, major positions of one-piece casting concrete, including pier and abutment body, foundation and open caisson bottom filler, may be mixed with rubbles. The quantity of rubbles shall not be larger than 20% of the total quantity, and the strength grade of stones shall not be lower than MU50.
1.0.7 Stone block masonry shall be dysgeogenous stones. As for stone block masonry used in water-immersed and damp regions, the softening coefficient of stones used in main work shall not be lower than 0.8.
Except that the ones not subjected to freezing in dry climate, adopting stone block masonry, the stones used in main work in the regions with the annual average temperature in the coldest month -5℃~-15℃ or below -15℃ shall meet the freezing resistance requirements.
In the regions with the annual average temperature in the coldest month -5℃~-15℃ or below -15℃, adopting one-piece-casting concrete and concrete block piers and abutments, the strength grade of concrete shall not be lower than C30; adopting block masonry, the strength grade of the cement mortar for culvert coping stone, wing wall and foundation shall not be lower than M20.
