This standard specifies the material and structural requirements, performance requirements, test method and marking, packaging, transportation and storage for car body air filter for locomotive and rail car.
This standard is applicable to multiform air filters of car body air intake systems for various types of railway locomotives, rail car units and industrial and mining locomotives.

TB/T 2723-1996 Test Methods for Performance of Air Filter for Diesel Locomotive
3 Technical Requirements
3.1 Basic requirements
3.1.1 Air filter is produced according to this standard and drawings approved by the established procedures.
3.1.2 The frame of air filter is flat in shape, regular and damage-free.
3.1.3 In order to prevent it from damages of foreign matters or snow, effective protections shall be arranged outside the air filters installed at locomotives.
3.1.4 Air filter shall be easy to dismantle, clean or replace.
3.1.5 Operating ambient temperature: -40℃~40℃.
3.2 Material requirements
3.2.1 If the air filter is made of cleanable or regenerated materials, the post-cleaning or -regenerating performance shall satisfy the performance indexes specified in this standard and meet operating requirements; the service life after cleaning or regenerating is two medium maintenance periods.
3.2.2 Metal materials of air filter shall be subject to effective rust-proof treatment and be ensured not rusting within 2 years; metal filter screen should adopt stainless steel materials.
3.2.3 Non-metal materials in air filter shall be flame retardant materials and can meet environmental protection requirements.
3.2.4 The high-temperature resistant and cryogenic performance of air filter shall meet the requirements of temperature limits specified in TB/T 2723-1996.
3.2.5 Under the application conditions of locomotive, it shall ensure the sealing strips of air filter being sealed effectively, uncracked, non-degumming and resilient; and its heat-resistance and moisture-resistance performances shall meet application requirements. It can be used normally when the maximum relative humidity reaches 90%.
3.3 Structural requirements
3.3.1 Filter materials and frame of air filter shall be connected tightly; outer frame shall be applied with sealing strips which shall also connect tightly with outer frame, so as to ensure the filter being sealed and connected reliably to the sidewall of locomotive.
3.3.2 Air filter shall be installed on the car body reliably and be capable of bearing vertical, lateral and longitudinal vibrations with a vibration frequency of 1Hz~50Hz and a vibration acceleration of 1g and bearing impact of equivalent to a 3g longitudinal acceleration of locomotive.
3.3.3 Dust exhausting hole and dewatering hole shall be arranged on the outer frame bottom of air filter so as to ensure dust and rain being discharged smoothly.
