This part specifies the requirements and test methods for the mechanical and physical properties of non metal reinforcement for optical fiber cables - aramid yarn, such as linear density, breaking strength, breaking tenacity, elongation at break, force at specified elongation and chord modulus.
This part is applicable to non metal reinforcement for optical fiber cables - aramid yarn.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this part, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
linear density (LD)
the mass per unit length of the yarn. There are usually two systems of units (rex system is used in this part):
——tex, which defines the mass (g) of yarn per 1,000 m, i.e. tex = g/1,000 m, and dtex = 0.1 tex = g/10,000 m.
——den, which defines the mass (g) of yarn per 9,000 m, i.e. den = denier = g/9,000 m.
Note: 1dtex=0.9den.
