This standard specifies the test methods of corrosion resistance of medical instruments and dental hand instruments of martensitic and austenitic stainless steel.
This standard is applicable to medical instruments of martensitic stainless steel (e.g. scissors, pliers, tweezers etc.) and medical instruments of austenitic stainless steel (e.g. hypodermic needle, acupuncture needle, intrauterine device of stainless steel and stainless steel wire for teeth) and also applicable to the materials for manufacturing medical instruments of austenitic stainless steel.
This standard is not applicable to surgical implants of martensitic and austenitic stainless steel.
