This part specifies the identification and assessment methods of hazardous situations leading to explosion and the design and construction measures appropriate for safety requirements. This is achieved by:
- Hazard identification;
- Hazard assessment;
- Elimination or minimization of hazards;
- Information for use.
The safety of equipment, protective systems and components may be realized through eliminating and/or limiting hazards, i.e.:
a) By design without safety device;
b) By safety device;
c) By communication links, if necessary, to convey information to the user;
d) By any other additional precautions.
Explosion prevention measures corresponding to a) (prevention) and b) (protection) are specified in Chapter 6 of this part. Explosion prevention measures corresponding to c) are specified in Chapter 7 of this part. Explosion prevention measures corresponding to d) are specified in Chapter 5 of GB/T 15706.2-2007 instead of in this part.
The prevention and protective measures specified in this part do not provide the required safety level, unless the equipment, protective systems and components are operated within their intended use and are installed and maintained according to corresponding operation specifications or requirements.
This part specifies the general design and manufacturing method to help the design personnel and manufacturer to realize explosion protection safety during design of equipment, protective systems and components.
This part is applicable to any equipment, protective systems and components intended to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres. Such atmospheres may be caused by the flammable substances processed, used or released by equipment, protective systems and components or by the flammable substances surrounding equipment, protective systems and components and/or by the constituting materials of equipment, protective systems and components.
This part is applicable to the equipment, protective systems and components at all stages of their use. This part is only applicable to all Groups II and III equipment which are intended for use in other places than equipment used in mines; for underground parts of mines, and those parts of surface installations of such mines endangered by gas and/or flammable dust, see "Explosive Atmospheres - Explosion Prevention and Protection - Part 2: Basic Concepts and Methodology for Mining" (GB 25285.2).
This part is not applicable to:
- Medical devices intended for use in a medical environment;
- Equipment, protective systems and components where the explosion hazard results exclusively from the presence of explosive substances or unstable chemical substances.
- Equipment, protective systems and components where the explosion occurs by the reaction of substances with other oxidizers than atmospheric oxygen or by other hazardous reaction or by other non-atmospheric conditions.
