This standard specifies the properties and package of disposed waste and provides fundamental requirements on the site selection, design, operation, closing, supervision and safety evaluation of shallow ground disposal site. Corresponding enforcement regulations may be formulated during the implementation process according to the principles and requirements of this standard.
This standard is applicable to the ground-surface or underground shallow burying disposal with protective cover and with or without project barrier of all the low-and intermediate-level radioactive solid wastes ("waste" for short). This standard does not cover the disposal of wastes in natural or manual caves.
