3 Classification
3.1 Steels are classified into eight classes by application:
a) Non-alloy steels for cutting tool and mould;
b) Measuring and cutting tool steels;
c) Impact resistance tool steel;
d) Rolling steel;
e) Cold-working mould steel;
f) Hot-working mould steel;
g) Plastic mould steel;
h) Special-purpose mould steel.
3.2 Steels are classified into two classes by the application and machining method:
a) Steel for pressure working UP:
1) Hot pressure working UHP;
2) Cold pressure working UCP.
b) Steel for cut working UC.
The application and machining method of steels shall be noted in the contract.
3.3 Steels are classified into four classes by chemical compositions:
a) Non-alloy tool steel ("T" is in the first place of designation);
b) Alloy tool steel;
c) Non-alloy mould steel ("SM" are in the first places of designation);
d) Alloy mould steel.
Note: Non-alloy tool steel is the original carbon tool steel.
