This standard specifies the general reliability test methods for complete motor vehicle engine on rack, including load test specification (such as alternating load, mixed load and full-speed full load), cool and hot shock test specification and reliability assessment method.
This standard is applicable to water cooling engines of passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles, not applicable to engines for motorcycles and tractors. This kind of engines is reciprocating, rotating and free of free piston, including spark-ignition engines and compression ignition engines, two-stroke engines and four-stroke engines, non-superchargers and superchargers (mechanical supercharging and turbo supercharging, water to air and air to air intercooling), is applicable to gasoline, diesel oil, natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas and alcohol powered engines.
The reliability test may be carried out according to methods specified in this standard for type approval of newly-designed or significantly-modified motor vehicle engines, certification of transfer-plant produced engines as well as quality inspection of currently produced engines.
This standard may also serve as technical basis for association between engine manufacturer and motor vehicle manufacturer.
