This standard specifies the technical requirements and test methods for the protection of the occupant in front outboard seat in the event of an off-set frontal collision for passenger car.
It is applicable to power-driven vehicles of Category M1, of a total permissible design mass not exceeding 2,500kg; heavier vehicles of Category M1 and other category power-driven vehicles may refer to this standard.

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

protective system
interior installed fittings and devices intended to restrain the occupants and contribute towards ensuring compliance with the requirements set out in Chapter 4
3.2
type of protective system
a category of protective devices which do not differ in such essential respects as:
——their manufacturing process technology;
——their geometry;
——their constituent material.
