1 Subject and Applicability
This standard specifies a neutralization titrimetric method for the determination of boron content.
This standard is applicable to the determination of the boron content in high-boron stainless steels. Boron determination range: 0.50%~2.00%.
2 Principle
Dissolution of the sample with hydrochloric acid. Separation of elements such as ferrum, chromium and nickel. Using mononitrophenol as an indicator, regulation of the solution to acidic. Decarbonation by boiling. Re-regulation of the solution to pH 7. With the presence of mannite, using phenolphthalein as an indicator, titration with sodium hydroxide standard solution.
A tungsten content larger than 15 mg and a molybdenum content larger than 15 mg both interfere the determination.
