1. Scope
This national standard specifies the requirements of the mechanical testing, sampling location and sample preparation of the section steel, steel bar, steel plate and steel tube defined in GB/T 15574. Through negotiation on both sides, this standard may also adopt other metal products for sampling.
If the product standard or the mutual agreement has other regulations on the sampling, it shall execute the regulations.

The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard. At time of publication, the editions indicated were valid. All standards are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards indicated below.

3. Definitions and signs
This standard adopts the following definitions and signs:
3.1 Definitions
3.1.1 Test unit
According to the product standard or the requirements of the contract, and based on the experiment conducted on the sample product, the number or tons of the take-over or rejected products are referred to test unit (see Figure 1).
3.1.2 Sample product
In test and experiment, extractive part of the test unit (for example: a piece of plate) is referred to sample product (see Figure 1).
3.1.3 Sample
In order to prepare for one or several samples, adequate material cut from the sample product is referred to sample (see Figure 1).
Note: in certain cases, the samples equal to sample product.
3.1.4 Rough specimen
In order to prepare for sample, the samples after mechanical treatment or required heat treatment are referred to rough specimen (see Figure 1).
3.1.5 Test piece
After mechanical treatment or not, the rough specimen that meet the requirements of size and test are referred to test piece.
Note: in certain cases, the test piece may be the sample material, or may be the rough specimen.
3.1.6 Reference condition
The samples, rough specimen or test pieces shall be under heat treatment to represent the final state of the product.
