1 Scope
This standard specifies the method of using raveled strip and cut strip to determine the breaking force and elongation at breaking force of fabric s, including sample tests under balanced or moistened conditions of standard atmosphere for testing.
This standard is applicable to woven fabrics and fabrics (such as knitted fabric, nonwovens, coated fabric and other types of fabrics) produced by other technology.
This standard is not applicable to elastic fabric, weft plain knit fabric, rib knit fabric, geotextile, glass fabric, carbon fabric and polyolefine flat-yarn fabric.
This standard requires using constant rate of extension (CRE) testing machine.
Note: constant rate of traverse (CRT) testing machine may be used according to the agreement signed by parties concerned, but it shall indicate it in test report.

3 Definitions
This standard adopts the following definitions.
3.1 Strip test
A kind of fabric tensile test, where the whole width of sample is clamped by a clamp
3.2 Cut strip
A strip sample, which is cut to reach the required width for testing
3.3 Raveled strip
A strip sample, both sides of which are removed with equal quantity of yarns to reach the required width for testing
3.4 Gauge length
The distance between two effective clamping lines of clamping sample on test device
3.5 Initial length
The distance between two effective clamping lines of clamping sample on test device under specified pretension
3.6 Pretension
The force imposed on sample before testing
3.7 Breaking force/maximum force
The recorded maximum breaking force of sample in tensile test under specified conditions
3.8 Force at rupture
The recorded instantaneous ultimate force at rupture of sample in tensile test under specified conditions
3.9 Extension
The increment of sample length induced by tension, expressed by length unit
3.10 Elongation
The ratio between sample extension and its initial length, expressed by percentage
3.11 Elongation at break
The elongation corresponding to breaking force
3.12 Elongation at rupture
The elongation corresponding to force at rupture
3.13 Constant rate of extension (CRE) testing machine
A kind of test instrument to make direct ratio between sample extension and time when one clamp of clamping sample is fixed and the other moves at constant rate throughout the testing
3.14 Constant rate of extension (CRT) testing machine
A kind of test instrument, with one traverse clamp moving at constant rate and the other driving the clamp of hammer mechanism to impose loads. The increase rate of load or sample extension in test shall depend on the elongation characteristic of sample.
