The national standard is the general standard of ultrasonic testing for steel castings.
The national standard prescribes the ultrasonic testing method for carbon steel and low alloy steel castings with thickness equal to or more than 30mm and it also prescribed the method for specifying quality levels of steel castings according to ultrasonic testing result. The used ultrasonic testing method is only limited to A-scope pulse-echo method.
In the order, the supply and demand consulted the following requirements for steel castings ultrasonic testing.
a. The tested region and used probe
b. longitudinal wave straight beam probe flaw detection sensitivity
c. The steel castings quality level. Different quality level requirements are allowed to put forward for planar discontinuity non-planar discontinuity.
The national standard is not applicable to the detection of austenitic stainless steel castings.
