This standard specifies mensuration for dissolved and dispersed combination content in the oilfield water (output water, injected water, workover fluid and production-increased fluid). This standard is not applicable to bacteriological analysis, biological test (toxicity test on the marine organism), mensuration for naturally occurring radioactive substances and test method for the membrane filter.
Biological testing standards for bacterial species and concentration see National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE International) TM 0194-2004 "Field Monitoring of Bacterial Growth in Oil and Gas Systems".
Measurement standard for naturally occurring radioactive substances in oilfield water sees API Bull E2 "Bulletin on Management of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) in Oil & Gas Production"
Membrane filter test see NACE International TM 0173-99 "Testing Method to determine Injection Water Quality with Membrane Filter" or SY/T 5329 "Recommended Indices and Analysis Method for Injected Water Quality into Clasolite Oil-gas field".
Residue analysis for some organic treating agents (such as photoresist, demulsifiers, or fouling agents, water purification agent, disinfestation agent) is not brought into this standard. However, analysis for ordinary components of some chemicals like phosphate (fouling agents) is included in this standard.
Finally, analysis for innocuous oilfield rubbish, such as, drilling fluid, soil and rock core are not belonging to the scope of this standard, but water (including filtered solution) separated from the above substances may be analyzed with this standard.
Analytical methods listed in this standard are selected according to the accuracy, repeatability and applicability for the oilfield. For most of components, it has provided a number of analytical methods with different degrees of difficulty and accuracy for the operator selecting the most appropriate and most economical way in accordance with their own needs.
