This standard specifies the requirements for paint, painting process and quality inspection in the protection and painting of railway passenger car and tractive units. It is applicable to the painting of complete cars such as passenger car, rolling stock, service car and EMU as well as their components and parts.

3 Paints
3.1 All paints and auxiliary materials shall meet those specified in TB/T 2879.1 and be tested with the methods specified in TB/T 2879.2. They shall not be used until confirmed as qualified.
3.2 Generally, paints and auxiliary materials from the same supplier shall be adopted for the same car or component; this requirement may be not followed upon the permission of the user, however, the paint matchability shall be guaranteed.
3.3 When heat insulation and sound insulation materials are adopted as surface paints, the matchability of all paints must be guaranteed.
